Phoenix, Arizona (October 23, 2013) – Members of the Board of Directors for Executive Council Charities met today at Phoenix Children’s Hospital to provide the first installment of a $500,000 commitment over five years to fund the 4th Floor Playroom at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. After doing the formal check presentation, the Board Members spent the afternoon with the kids hosting the monthly birthday party for the patients at the Hospital and their families.

On top of this commitment, additional funds for Phoenix Children’s come through Executive Council Charities’ Support Arizona Youth program, where donors can specify selected charities for their contribution and be eligible for a dollar-for-dollar Arizona state tax credit for assisting the working poor.

Open to patients of all ages as well as their families, playrooms are no-procedure zones where children escape the many invasive procedures required for their medical care. Children enjoy scheduled activities and entertainment, books, games, toys and crafts. The Executive Council Charities Playroom will be located on the Hospital’s 4th floor. This floor is home to 12 operating rooms and multiple preoperative rooms for children will illnesses or injuries that may be treated by a surgical procedure. The playroom is a crucial component to their ability to cope and heal from a surgical procedure.

“The medical services Phoenix Children’s Hospital provides the children of our community is amazing and fits perfectly with our mission to help youth overcome adversity and reach their full potential,” said Ryan Amato, 2012-2013 Board Chairman for Executive Council Charities. “We have worked hard to grow our grants pool over the past few years and are grateful we can continue to support strong organizations like Phoenix Children’s, as well as reaching out to lesser known and emerging nonprofits that impact local youth.”

Inclusive of this grant, Executive Council Charities has supported more than 60 local youth charities during the 2013 grant cycle. The organization also recently announced a significant multi-year commitment to sponsor the Power Hour Room at the Hartley & Ruth Barker Branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale.

“We are very grateful to Executive Council Charities for their generous commitment and long standing partnership,” said Steve Schnall, Senior Vice President, Chief Development Officer, Phoenix Children’s Hospital. “Being in the Hospital is never easy, but our playrooms provide our patients with a place to relieve anxiety and fear as well as have some fun. This donation to fund our 4th floor playroom will truly make a difference for our patients and their families.”
